So much stands in the way of you being able to access and make good use of your intuition. Noise of the world, routines, responsibilities…

And your own mind.

The mind works overtime to keep you safe. Or what it thinks is safe. The mind prefers what it knows, the situations its already experienced, outcomes it can likely rely on.

This often conflicts with what the body knows — your intuition.

If you’re only making decisions based on the mind, you’re missing out. And, many folks don’t want to just dump their brains, their reason as they’re making moves.

The good news is that you can bridge the two and have the best of both worlds.

Why do intuition and the mind conflict?

  1. Conditioning. Throughout our lives, we all pick up beliefs about how we should behave, how the world should work, how our lives should look.

  2. Lack of information. You don’t know (can’t know) what’s on the other side of a change. You can’t predict the future. The mind, being a pattern recognizing, meaning making machine, tries to fill that gap with the information it does have. Mostly reasons to be afraid and conditioned beliefs.

It’s also worth noting that most information doesn’t make it to conscious awareness. The brain filters out 99% of all of the information the senses take in. The body, however, has access to ALL of the info.

Naturally, this creates a fair bit of fear! The mind becomes very busy with social pressures, all of the ‘shoulds’, trying to fill in the gaps of information we don’t have. The more fearful we are, the further mind and intuition drift from one another.

How then, is do you resolve the two?

  1. Awareness. It’s always awareness to start. Recognize these factors at play within your own mind. In terms of conditioning, it’s helpful to look at your Human Design chart. Undefined centers are at the root of our conditioning. Someone with an undefined root center may feel a constant pressure to figure out who needs them, focus on something new, to get a project moving now. An undefined heart center may feel an intense need to constantly prove themselves. While not essential, certainly having a tool to help objectively start to unravel conditioning can be very helpful.

  2. Notice when your mind gets busy. When does the chatter ramp up, and what is going on in those moments? What are you afraid of when the mind is very loud? This can helpcut through the noise

  3. Practice Body Awareness. Name the emotion you’re experiencing. Now, feel your body — what sensations are there? If you’re calm/peaceful? Anxious or afraid? Happy, excited?

  4. Be critical of your mind. Ask questions to spot the holes in your mind’s process. Questions like: How do you know that? What’s possible here? What information do I not have? Can I get it? Are there aspects I don’t know that I don’t know?

  5. Practice using your intuition… and notice what happens. Make small decisions based on your intuition. A gut feeling, a quiet whisper in the back of your mind, a gentle tug in one direction or other. What happens when you let your intuition be louder than your mind? Noticing and thinking this through helps to get the mind on board. It doesn’t need to be in control after all — it’s been loud to try to keep you safe, but over time, the mind learns that your intuition can do that just as well.
